At GBC we take safeguarding seriously.
We want GBC to be a safe place for everyone.
We endeavour to make sure that people feel able to disclose situations they are concerned about, and that these concerns are dealt with appropriately and in a timely fashion.
The Law
Safeguarding means protecting an adult or a child’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. This right has been defined in law including "The Children Act 1989", "The Children Act 2004", "Working Together To Safeguard Children : Statutory Guidance (updated 2023)", and "The Care Act 2014".
Our Christian Responsibility
Our belief is that protecting the vulnerable, whether adult or child, forms part of our Christian life, as seen in scripture, and demonstrated by Jesus and His disciples.
Deuteronomy 10:18 “He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing.”
Psalm 82:3-4 “Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
Matthew 18:6 "If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea"
James 1:27 "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
