Gorleston Baptist Church History 1868 – 1951

When the present GBC was built in 1951 they held an opening ceremony of the new church and printed a Souvenir booklet (large pdf). It contains a detailed ‘Local Baptist History’ written by the Church Secretary, Mr H A T Whiley. You can view images of the 2 pages below.

The adverts are a fascinating reflection of the period, with some business names still with us but many now gone.

The GBC history article is an interesting tale of the ups and downs both in the Gorleston church and our countries life.

Rev C H Jenkins, called to the pastorate in 1930, came to a Church well established, with a strong band of young people, the older members who had weatheed the storms of the earlier days having gradually been called to their well-earned reward.
