Experiencing God as Holy Spirit
God is known to us in three ways (three 'persons'): Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He remains One God, but known in these three ways. The Holy Spirit is God's Spirit, living within every Christian believer, as well as within the world at large. He 'replaced' Jesus the Son as God within us, when Jesus returned to heaven. |

The disciples first major experienceActs1:8 -But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." What was promised here? Power. This would be from the Holy Spirit. It would be power to do God's business, not for having an easy life, or getting what they wanted.
Acts 2:1-4 What do you imagine these disciples felt when this happened (eg elated, surprised, fearful, excited, or a feeling they'd never experienced before?)
Acts 2:5-13 What reaction did they get from the people passing by?
Acts 2:13-21
What difference did the Holy Spirit make to the disciples? (compare John 20:19 with Acts 2:14) What did Peter say was happening?
The quotation, from verse 17 to 21, is from Joel 2:28-32 (Old Testament). Verses 19 and 20 of Acts 2 refer to the future when Jesus will return, while verses 17 & 18 are the forecast of this event, the giving of the Holy Spirit.

Just like Jesus
John 14:15-17 'Counsellor' means someone who stands alongside us to help and comfort and strengthen us, and refers to the Holy Spirit.
At times the New Testament speaks of the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of Jesus, or the Spirit of Christ (eg Romans 8:9 and Galatians 4:6

Bible referencesActs 2:1-41When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them back to study Acts 2:5-13 5Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. 7Utterly amazed, they asked: "Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? 8Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language? 9Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11(both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs - we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!" 12Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, "What does this mean?" 13Some, however, made fun of them and said, "They have had too much wine." back to study Acts 2:14-21 14Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! 16No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 "'In the last days, God says,
