More about Jesus
The things Jesus said and the miracles He did are only part of the importance of His life. His death on the cross for us was something only He could do. |

Killing off the hero?Matthew 16:21-2321From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. 22Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "Never, Lord!" he said. "This shall never happen to you!" 23Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."
Fiction stories do not normally kill off the hero. It was God's purpose that Jesus should die on the cross. Stopping Him was satan's work (Jesus did not literally mean that Peter was satan, but that he was by accident doing his work)

Is there a way out?Matthew 26:36-3936Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray." 37He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38Then he said to them, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me." 39Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." Why do you think Jesus prayed like this?
