- Knowing other Christians better

Christians belong together, and form the church. It is in the church that we can develop and grow.

Family

John 1: 12-13 - Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God - children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
What does this say about every Christian?

When we become Christians we become children of God. Children of the same father are part of the same family. We therefore belong together. Although we choose our friends, we cannot choose our family. But we are meant to love our family.

Church

What do you think of when you hear the word 'church'?:
  • ? a building
  • ? services
  • ? mumbo-jumbo
  • ? boring things that don't make sense
  • ? a group of people who all have the same belief
  • ? something else
Church is always believers gathered together. As soon as we become Christians we become part of the church as a whole. We then need to get involved in the local church.

What church is all about

Look at each of the above and think about how these happen in our local church.

Being practical

Find out about the opportunities for being involved in our church - e.g. house group; Sunday Service; etc. Do this by talking to someone within the church

Ephesians 4:11-13
It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Romans 12:3-8
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
